Women in a Changing World: 1945-2000 (The Other Half of History)
Overview: Suffragists in the first half of the twentieth century won the right to vote equally with men. But when the Second World War ended in 1945, women had gained little else. A new wave of women's liberation began in the 1960s. Women who were bored and frustrated with their role as men's helpers campaigned for equal rights. They argued for the same pay and job opportunities as men, and for the right to control their own bodies. By the year 2000 women's lives had changed completely. This book plots the changes - at work, in family life and in politics. It shows what still remains to be done.
